When Kate left college in 1986 she joined mademoiselle magazine and left in 1991 as senior fashion editor/head of accessories.  Frustrated by the lack of fashionable yet practical bags, she set out to design her own.  Since launching her range of "Kate Spade Handbags" in 1996 she has won many awards for her designs.
